On May 15, 2008 Amy and Chad welcomed a healthy 9 pound 7 ounce boy named Liam into the world. This was their first child and the excitement was palpable. It was a normal pregnancy and normal labor up until it was time to deliver the baby. Liam was born without complications but just as Amy caught one glimpse of her brand new baby he was whisked away and she didn't see him again for several hours.
Amy experienced life-threatening complications post-delivery and began to bleed out. The physicians did everything they could, but unfortunately, Amy’s doctor couldn’t stop the bleeding and she was rushed to the operating room.
After several hours in the operating room, multiple units of blood and devastating news that a hysterectomy may be the only option, Amy pulled through because of the procedures performed and the blood she received. Amy was able to leave the hospital with her husband and son three days later. “We now have three healthy children and I couldn't be more thankful for those blood donors who helped save my life!”
